How to Effectively Use a Prospect Research Template

Now that you have created a successful prospect research temple, how do you best use it? There are many different strategies you can implement. Here are some main points

  1. Don’t overwhelm your fundraiser with too much at one time. Prospect research templates are meant to be comprehensive deep dives on specific prospects. They are dense and contain a lot of information. Therefore it does no one any good to unload a large bulk of them at once. Be intentional about how you share the information.

  2. Tailor your research templates to specific goals. Delivering a load of templates at the end of the fiscal year is not the most strategic use of the product. Wait until fundraisers are ready to take on new prospects or are deep in their conversations with current ones, then provide the template as a way to fill a knowledge gap.

  3. Know what fundraisers are trying to accomplish. A well seasoned fundraising vet has different goals than the new hire. Know the difference in these two situations and adjust accordingly.
